Che Guevara Brigade 2012
Time is quickly running short to acquaint people in your area of the exceptional and unique experience that is the Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade. This is our own Canadian network on Cuba's (CNC) non-profit program, organized co-operatively with the Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos (ICAP)
Check out the 2012 information on the Brigade site - also linked from the CNC site - at: http://www.canadiannetworkoncuba.ca/brigade/
The following promotional materials, attached above, can be downloaded from
the site and copied for distribution. There are some gaps in the current
information.
2012 Program, under "Program" on the web site, was drawn up by
ICAP before we had flight schedules so you will notice the program says we
arrive on April 29th. and depart May 19th. http://www.canadiannetworkoncuba.ca/brigade/materials.html
We actually arrive April 27th and depart May 18th. I am awaiting ICAP to
update the program. I put a note to that effect on the program.
"2012 Brigade Brochure" PDF, under "Materials", describing
the Brigade experience;
"2012 Brigade Small Flier", under "Materials", is basic
information to create interest with contact information and directions to
the web site.
Registration Made Easy
Under Register please see: "To begin the registration process, please download and fill out this form and send it as an email attachment to chevolbrigade@gmail.com." The viewer can click on the underlined to obtain a Word Doc Registration.
Once I receive a registration I telephone the applicant, talk to them a little to ensure the Brigade is the right program for their expectations, also to get a sense of the applicants attitude. I am not looking for just the converted but people who will come and participate but be respectful of our hosts and other Brigadistas.
From there I forward the registration to Judy Gallant of P & G Travel who will contact the Brigadista.

Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade to Cuba
A Potentially Life Changing Experience Away from the Usual Tourist Routes,
Living and Working with Cubans
This is a non-profit tour organized by the “Canadian Network on Cuba
(CNC)” and our Cuban partners, “Instituto Cubano de Amistad con
los Pueblos (ICAP)”, or Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
The purpose of this tour is to give participants (Brigadistas) an opportunity
to experience a little of the life, culture and history of Cuba at a very
economical cost.
Approximately 1/3 of our days will be devoted to offering our volunteer labour.
Brigadistas will experience working alongside Cubans, using their tools, doing
tasks that benefit the whole community. Bonding will occur leading to friendships
and a reciprocal respect for each other’s contributions.
“I want to point out the Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade is for all
ages” Says Dave Thomas, National Coordinator. “At 71 I was the
oldest Brigadista last year. With volunteer work, in Cuba as in Canada, there’s
a job to suit everyone!”
The balance of the visit will be divided between cultural events; cultural
exchanges – we show them a little of Canada, they show us Cuba - visits
to historical sites, schools, hospitals and community centres.
Arriving April 28th and returning May 12th the Brigade will spend week 1 in
Havana with International Brigades representing over 30 countries. Week 2
will be spent in the beautiful City of Cienfuegos whose original residents
were Acadians expelled from Canada.
Did I say recreation? Yes, Cuba’s famous beaches. A highlight of the
tour will be “International Night” delegates from over 30 countries
display national dishes, music and dance…Canada too!
Nothing can replace rising at 4:00 A.M, May 1st, traveling to Havana to attend
May Day (International Workers Day) Parade where, at precisely 8:00 A.M. 1
million flag waving, cheering workers begin to march by proudly displaying
huge union banners.

IFCO-Pastors
for Peace Hurricane Relief Construction Brigade
Wednesday, October 15, 2008
Dear Friend of IFCO,
Thanks to the generous support of friends like yourself, IFCO is sending a group of masons, electricians, plumbers, and carpenters to Cuba for a month during October and November to lend a hand with the reconstruction effort in Cuba. Brigade members will donate their time and experience, as well as their tools and materials.
IFCO is mounting a people-to-people response to the devastation in Cuba- solidarity with no strings attached. Your donations will help make possible this humanitarian gesture by IFCO. All donations will be used to fund expenses within the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The IFCO-Pastors for Peace Hurricane Relief Construction Brigade will be hosted in Puerto Esperanza, a small farming and fishing community in Pinar del Rio, one of the communities hardest hit by the hurricanes. There, they will work alongside Cuban workers rebuilding a school for children with special needs.
Never before has the island nation experienced such widespread damage as that wrought two hurricanes in rapid succession-- Gustav and Ike. Every part of Cuba's economic health and social structure has been severely damaged. Cuba estimates economic losses as high as five billion dollars.
Thanks to Cuba's legendary crisis mobilization, more than three million people were evacuated to safer areas and only seven lives were lost.
Countries around the world have quickly stepped forward to assist Cuba in this hour of need. Venezuela and Brazil have led the way with much needed assistance. So has the tiny island nation of East Timor, which sent $500,000 for reconstruction.
Unfortunately, the US government has continued to pursue a policy of aggression toward Cuba. Initially the US wanted to send investigators and spies "to assess the damage" to which Cuba said "no thank you we have our own assessors". While the US is considering offering Cuba $6 million in aid it has neglected to say that it has already sent $45 million to various groups whose mission is to engage in terrorism against Cuba
The magnitude of need in Cuba has reached historic proportions. Each of us can contribute in some way to the recovery effort.
We thank you for your help in the past and we are counting on your support in this historic moment of devastation.
